Magazine revenue

      HOW ARE MAGAZINES FUNDED COMMERCIALLY?

Revenue
Magazines receive revenue from:
circulation (cover price - £5.25 for MOJO in 2017). in 2018 it is priced at £5.50. it has risen 25p. this could be because less people are buying it  and so the company need to make more money.
advertising (in MOJO, mostly live or recorded music, with some fashion advertising, some

mass advertising

- cross-promotion for other Bauer brands, such as empire

- sponsored content and product placement, for example, 'Mojo listens to all its music on Roksan equipment'.

HOW DO THEY USE DIFFERENT FUNDING MODELS TO GENERATE INCOME?

The print magazine industry is suffering from falling advertising revenues and falling circulations as many of their audience go online. Their response has been to diversify as much as possible – events are a good example of this – and to move magazines online.
Sponsored content and product placement, for example, ‘MOJO listens to all its music on Roksan equipment’
Events, e.g. Vogue runs fashion events, GQ runs comedy events.
Product placement = when a product is advertised to the audience by being placed in a  media product in exchange for money

FUNDING
Bauer media is a German conglomerate. Nowadays, magazine publishing is in the hands of a few international companies, which is an example of Globalisation.

Is the media product selling itself to its audience, e.g. through use of promotional material? Through advertisments
they give you a free CD with the magazine so the audience may want to buy it because of the things they include in it. Also on the side of the magazine it wow its website which can further promote them as a magazine and attract more people as social media and the internet is a very used thing now. Their website includes articles, competitions, tickets and their store. This can allow the audience to be involved with Mojo.

What are the advertisements?
-HMV (cd shops. Relate to music magazine)
-new albums (promote the artists and albums)
-festivals and events (other ways the audience can express their love for rock)
-self-advertisement (different ways the audience can be involved with Mojo)
-Planet rock (owned by Bauer media so it is cross promotion)
-EMP. (Merchandise to attract the secondary target audience.)

Is there product placement?
-No

Whats online? Whats available to audiences?
Mojo's website is split up into different sections. For example, store, tickets, magazine. By doing this it allows the audience to access all the magazines with a subscription online as well as buying the latest merchandise. This gives the audience a lot of choice online making it very interactive.

How does it engage with different people?
It engages with people because it allows you to purchase tickets to concerts which will make the experience with the audience more interactive.

Who does this target?
This targets you're audiences because it is accessed by the website which is something that younger generations use more. It also targets them by selling the merchandise which they can order.

What is the advantage of having this platform?
The advantage is that it can target their primary audience as well as their secondary audience. Furthermore, as times change, technology improves and people won't be buying as many physical subscriptions and will want to have it on their phone or laptop.

Comments

  1. Firstly you need to make note that MOJO costs £5.50 (as of 2018). It's risen 25p in price. Tell me why you think that may be?

Read through your response to this question:
    Who does this target?
This targets you're audiences because it is accessed by the website which is something that younger generations use more. It also targets them by selling the merchandise which they can order.

The first part doesn't make sense. Additionally, in order to achieve a high level 6 you MUST get into the habit of writing about the demographic and NRS of the target audience you are being asked to write about. Go through this answer and think abour firstly HOW the online content targets a different audience compared to the magazine and WHO the target audeince are.
